Las Vegas has heated up which means the pools are open for the season. From lazy rivers to exclusive open air day clubs with star DJ’s to secluded retreats with luxurious cabanas. Las Vegas has a little something for everyone and I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing all ends of the spectrum. Here’s a list of some of our favorite pools and pool clubs in Las Vegas.
Mandalay Bay Resort & Spa & Moorea Beach Club
Did you ever think you would be body surfing on waves in Las Vegas? Mandalay Bay has an 11-acre aquatic playground with a 1.6 million gallon wave pool with swells up to 6 feet high for children and adults, a quarter mile lazy river, whirlpools and of course a beachside casino for those who simply cannot pull themselves away from the poker tables. I tested the lazy river and lost a pair of sunglasses under the waterfall. I recommend leaving the shades back at the cabana. Our cabana came fully stocked with a mini-fridge (water, soda, juice), flat screen TV’s, two inner tubes for the lazy river and an iPod docking station so you can jam out to your own beats. If you’re hungry there’s no need to leave your cabana. There’s a menu for you to order from and your food gets delivered. If you’re a music lover, make sure to stop by the beach to see one of the concert series offered throughout the summer.
If you feel like you need a little more action, stop into Moorea Beach Club. Moorea Beach is a private, European bathing experience with brightly colored red chaise lounges, daybeds, and cabana rentals. Let me emphasize the “European bathing” so in other words toptional™ which means you are required to be 21 years of age or older to enter. Once inside, you’ll feel as though you just walked into an open-air nightclub. The DJ’s got all the latest hits playing while dance parties are taking place every corner you look. For many, it’s a price tag worthy of the experience.
Liquid at ARIA Resort & Casino
Liquid is tucked behind the resorts three other pristine pools in it’s own little world. As you walk up, you’ll start to hear the music thumping. The best way to describe this cozy pool party is to envision a nightclub during the day. I highly suggest getting to the pool early so you don’t have a long wait in line. I arrived around 11am and thankfully it was only a short security line and bag check. That’s not always the case. Be prepared to stand in line. Once inside, daybeds and lounges surround the outer edge of the pool within perfect view of the DJ booth. There are eight cabanas on the edge of a smaller pool where you’ll find $2,000 bottles of champagne being ordered; the moment is celebrated with waitresses in a boxing robes marching out to the Rocky theme song. Not all of us can afford those but it’s a production when you see one. As for the dress code, unlike the nightclubs the pool parties encourage guests to have fun so you can show off your own personal style. There is one must-have fashion accessory for the summer’s pool party circuit: a valid photo ID. You’re not getting through without one.
Flamingo Las Vegas
Who doesn’t love waterslides and 18-foot waterfalls? This iconic resort has luxurious landscaping including four pools, two whirlpools, and waterslides enclosed in a 15-acre island paradise. One of the few pools you can enjoy all year round. What I enjoyed the most was the beautiful pink Chilean flamingoes, swans and exotic birds roaming the pool grounds. The wildlife Habitat makes for great free entertainment for children. For the adults, you can enjoy a swim up blackjack tables to see if you’re luckier in the pool than on dry land. Everyone needs to stop by this Classic Las Vegas resort before they leave town.
Tropicana Las Vegas
Say hello to pool season! The $180 million dollar resort renovation is turning heads and the pool is the place to be. I was able to lounge on a beautiful white chaise lounge with red accent pillows while enjoying a foot massage. Would I like a cold towel…yes please! I’m in heaven. This south beach inspired pool featured waterfalls, private lounge areas and a swim-up blackjack area. If you’re looking to get out of the sun, try the indoor pool area where you can relax in the whirlpool. After a few sushi rolls and lettuce wraps it was time for a nap. While at the pool we had a private diva fanning us. Talk about pampering. If you need something a little more upbeat, keep your eye out for Bagatelle Beach and Nightclub. Bagatelle will offer the original Bagatelle Champagne brunch, beachside activities including bocce ball, volleyball courts and beach soccer. Come nightfall, the beach will offer poolside dining, and the occasional dinner-and-a-movie. The Bagatelle Beach experience will be opening late June 2012.
Caesars Palace
The Garden of the God’s pool is truly breathtaking! Another legendary resort offering six different pools for you to choose from. While walking through the grounds you feel as though you just entered Rome. From beautifully decorated blue mosaic tiles to a golden statue of Caesar. If you’re looking for a peaceful pool head over to the Jupiter pool and pamper yourself with a few frozen grapes in the daybeds. If that’s not quite what your looking for then try the Fortuna pool where you can sit in the sun and play a few hands of blackjack or enjoy a few bites to eat. If you want to step up the action, make your way over to the Venus Pool Club. The Venus Club is an exclusive secluded European-Style bathing retreat offering ultra-high end food and beverages. Though not everyone is able to afford those options you can always wait for the complimentary frozen fruit or cold towels. Who doesn’t love a few frozen grapes on a hot summer day!
Golden Nugget
After a $30 million complete renovation, the famous Golden Nugget pool called The Tank is a must-see! How many times can you take a nap by the pool while watching sharks swim through a 200,000-gallon shark aquarium? Only at the Golden Nugget! Enjoy lounge chairs barley sitting half-sunk in the shallow wading pool overlooking a massive shark tank. Not to mention, for an even more up-close and personal experience you should take a ride down the enclosed water slide that shoots right through the middle of The Tank filled with sharks and other fish. If you’re not in the mood for a dip, the Golden Nugget brings the casino to you. You can be part of the action with poolside poker and blackjack tables. I love the quaint fire pit next to the pool area for lounging. It’s great for social hour before dinner.
