Ahhh…Riviera Maya

The Remarkable Riviera Maya

Usually around March or April I catch the travel bug—especially since I live in good ol’ snowy Minnesota. By this time each year, I’m pretty tired of any hint of cold weather, snow, ice, or anything. You get the picture. So as you can imagine, right now I’m dreaming of my last vacation to Mexico, which was to THE ROYAL Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. It was just straight up fantastic!

My mom and I took time off for a little mother-daughter vay-cay, and the pampering this resort gave us was much needed. Plus, the beaches along the Riviera Maya are AMAZING! Seriously. When you read about beautiful white-sand beaches stretching for miles in each direction, blending oh-so-effortlessly with that sparkling, turquoise-and-blue ocean and endless blue sky, it’s really true. It’s no exaggeration. Sure, there are days when it’s a little windy and cloudy, but hey, it’s still warm and I’m still on the beach getting a sunburn, so who’s complaining? ;-)

Riviera Maya

When staying in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, you’ll definitely want to check out Playa del Carmen. This super-cute town is paved with cobblestone streets, quaint open-air restaurants, plenty of little shops and mini-markets to explore, and, of course, there’s some good people watching. Here’s a little tidbit—all of the restaurants along the Quinta Avenida in Playa are certified to serve clean drinking water, so you won’t have to worry about only purchasing bottled water here, unless that’s how you normally prefer to drink it.

Playa del Carmen

While perusing all there is to see in Playa del Carmen, if you’re anything like me, you’ll notice the pier and the ferry and wonder where it takes you. The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is the island of Cozumel. It’s a well-known dive destination and a mere 45-minute ferry ride away—I would highly recommend hopping over to do a little shopping and sightseeing—that’s what my mom and I did, and we had a blast!

That’s all from me for now, check back for more later!
